Water Heater Installation & Repair in Tyler, Texas

It depends on the fault, unit type, tank size, fuel source, and any code upgrades your home needs, such as an expansion tank, new venting, or a gas-line change. A worn thermostat or heating element costs far less than a full replacement. You get a flat-rate written quote before any work starts. Call (903) 707-8889. Repair a unit under 8 years old with one failed part, such as a thermostat, heating element, thermocouple, or anode rod. Replace it when it is over 10 years old, leaking from the tank shell, running rusty, or needing a second repair within a year. A corroded tank shell cannot be repaired, only replaced.

On a gas unit, the pilot light, thermocouple, or gas valve has failed. On an electric unit, the breaker tripped or a heating element burned out. Both are same-day repairs. Our trucks stock thermocouples, gas valves, thermostats, and elements, so most first visits end with hot water restored.

A tank unit lasts 8 to 12 years and a tankless unit 15 to 20. Tyler's hard Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer water shortens both. Homes without a softener often lose two to three years off tank life as limescale builds on the floor and elements. Annual flushing and anode-rod checks recover most of that.

Five signs point to replacement: the unit is over 10 years old, hot water runs rusty, the tank rumbles or pops, water turns lukewarm, or water pools at the base. Pooling water is the decisive one, meaning the steel tank has corroded through and cannot be sealed.

A tank stores 40 to 50 gallons and costs less upfront. A tankless unit gives endless hot water, uses 20 to 30 percent less energy, frees floor space, and lasts 15 to 20 years against 8 to 12. Tankless often needs a larger gas line or meter. For families of three or more staying long-term, tankless usually wins.

Yes. A live dispatcher answers 24/7 and a licensed plumber reaches most Tyler addresses within about an hour. We stock 40 and 50 gallon tanks on the truck, so most replacements finish the same day. A tank leaking from the shell is an emergency: shut the cold inlet valve and call (903) 707-8889.

The anode rod that protects the tank is spent, so the steel lining has begun to corrode. Replacing the anode rod early can stop it; once rust reaches the tank wall, the unit needs replacement, not repair. Rust only on the hot side points to the heater, not your city water supply.

Yes. Texas requires a permit for every water heater installation, tank or tankless. Skipping it causes failed home-sale inspections and denied insurance claims. We pull the City of Tyler permit and install to the 2021 International Plumbing Code, including venting, T&P discharge, and expansion-tank rules.

Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer water is hard, carrying heavy calcium and magnesium. Those minerals settle as limescale on the tank floor, insulating the burner so it runs longer, overheating the steel and consuming the anode rod faster. A 12-year tank on unsoftened Tyler water often fails at 8 or 9. A softener and annual flush prevent it.
